NFL Week 4 Picks

Once this week’s podcast is up on Podomatic and iTunes, we’ll insert the links into this post. Cory kept pace with Evan in Week 3 while Eric lost ground by one game in our points competition. In the seven games that our three hosts couldn’t reach a consensus on, Evan was correct six times. Eric's Week 4 Winners

After two mediocre weeks to start the season, I finally broke through in Week 3 while on vacation in Maui, scoring a perfect week.  I guess you could say I was Hawaii 5-0 (sorry, had to do it).  We've had some shakeups at the quarterback position over the last few days, which always makes for interesting lines.  Here's what I have for Week 4. Cincinnati +5 over Atlanta The Bengals have enough talent on both sides of the ball to make Atlanta's day difficult.  They won't have the Saints' explosive attack, but they also won't let Calvin Ridley torch them all afternoon.  Cincinnati and the Falcons are more or less on equal footing, and a 5 point spread implies that Atlanta is a decisively better team.  I'm not feeling that.  The Bengals at least keep this one close. Dallas -3 over Detroit The Lions seem to be getting some undue attention due to their shellacking of the Patriots on Sunday night, but I haven't forgotten their previous struggles....

A Football Life, Week 3

It’s a good thing I have these recaps to look forward to because, as you all will see, my fantasy team’s outlook isn’t so hot. My commissioner duties will certainly help to keep me invested through the rest of this long season. After the first two weeks of this season both fell among the top five highest scoring weeks in AFL history, there was a slight lull in Week 3. Drew Brees and Matt Ryan put on a show in a shootout down in Atlanta, scoring 43.7 and 42.1 points respectively, but no other starting player in our league posted a total to join the top 40 at their position. For their part, Drew Brees, owned by Sean Kennedy, joins the quarterbacks list with the 3rd highest single-game score our league has seen and Matt Ryan, owned by Andrew Perez, joins at number 6 on the list. In fact, Brees also holds the number 2 spot from Week 8 of the 2015 season, when he scored 47.2 points for Nolan Soter, one of our former league members. That came in a shootout against the Giants whe...

Eric's Week 3 Winners

Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good.  Once again, I had a crummy week with my Winners, but since I inadvertently bet on Dallas twice instead of betting on New England, I actually came out ahead this week.  Still, I feel compelled to take a loss for that Patriots pick as to avoid inflating my record.  But enough about that.  Let's get to Week 3. New Orleans +3 over Atlanta Poor start aside, New Orleans has the better QB, better RB, and more defensive talent than Atlanta does.  Home field could ultimately tilt this Atlanta's way, but it's too close for me not to grab the three points. Washington +3 over Green Bay The Redskins laid an egg last week, so I understand the line.  That doesn't mean I agree with it.  Washington still has a solid team, and I have real concerns about Green Bay's viability given their over-reliance on their hobbled superstar quarterback. Kansas City -6.5 over San Francisco After a week of doubting the legend of...
