For the first time this year we did not see a new single-week team scoring record as Evan Ash led the way but didn’t even set a new team high for the season.
Overall it was a much tighter pack in Week 4 than in any previous week with a standard deviation between our eight teams of just about 10 points, down from the previous low of 15 in Week 1.
Evan’s 131.75 points set the pace in the second week we’ve now seen where everybody reached the 100-point plateau. He doubled as the winner of the game of the week, becoming our first manager to take home both the Rickey Henderson Award and the Manny Ramirez Award in the same week.
Cory Frontin set new AOA records with the most runs scored by his offensive players in a week (41) and as the first manager to post a team batting average of .300 in a single week, hitting that mark on the nose. It wasn’t enough, though, as his team still fell to Cory Puffett’s undefeated squad in the closest game of the week.
Alex Mayo got his first win of the season this week despite finishing fifth in scoring. That lucky victory counters his unlucky loss from a week ago when he finished fourth in scoring but was blown out by Eric Meyer’s 172-point performance.
Speaking of Eric, he’s been pretty up and down this season. His team has come to play in odd-numbered weeks, in which he has averaged 180 optimum points and has collected 88.9% of them. Even-numbered weeks have not been so kind to him; his team has averaged 142 optimum points and his average coaching score those two weeks has been just 75.9%. He’ll hope to continue that trend this week and then break out of it in Week 6.
Sam Martin also deserves a shout out this week. He is the only manager who has increased his scoring every week this season, starting at 102.50 in Week 1 and finishing with 127.00 in a Week 4 victory over Eric. He set new season bests for single week plate appearances (242), RBI (33), OPS (.796) and innings pitched (48.1).
Check out our Week 4 recap below followed by this week’s power rankings:
Game of the Week: Evan Ash at Andrew Perez
In the highest scoring game of the week, Evan took advantage of Andrew leaving two pitcher starts on the table and outscored his opponent by 21 points on Sunday to complete the weekend comeback and take sole possession of first place in the West division with 20% of the season in the books.
