Aces Only Association, Week 6 Afterword

I’m getting a late start on this week’s write-up so I’ll be fairly brief.

Cory Puffett led the league in scoring again this past week to take home his third Rickey Henderson Award of the year. He leads the AOA in at bats and it a close second in innings pitched, just 2.2 innings behind Evan Ash.

His players’ performances have been good but he’s also put a lot of focus into getting his team as many opportunities at the plate and on the mound as possible. For their part, Cory’s pitchers were brilliant in Week 6, leading the league in innings pitched (49.2), ERA (1.27), and FIP (2.28), despite Alex Reyes’s meltdown in the 10th inning of Sunday Night Baseball.

Andrew Perez won the Manny Ramirez Award by holding off Cory Frontin in a tight game of the week contest, aided by his league-leading 15 home runs, 41 runs scored, and .936 OPS.

Week 6 was the fourth time already this season in which all eight managers scored at least 100 points so it’s probably time to pick a new threshold to track.

Meanwhile, this was the first time all season in which nobody suffered an unlucky loss as all of the league’s top four scorers for the week won their matchups. It would have been absolutely devastating for somebody if that hadn’t been the case considering those four managers – Cory P., Sam Martin, Andrew, and Evan – all finished within 2 points of each other.

It was also the first time that a game featured both the highest and lowest scorer of the week, with Cory P. beating Sean Kennedy by a margin of 44.50 points.

Sam Martin took advantage of a great hitting week. He finished a close second in plate appearances and made the most of the opportunities as his guys recorded a .305 batting average for the week. He beat Alex Mayo in the third-highest scoring game of the season so far, with the two combining for 283.50 points.

Check out our Week 6 recap below, followed by this week’s power rankings:

Game of the Week: Andrew Perez at Cory Frontin

Don’t let Andrew’s 18-point margin of victory fool you. His game against Cory came down to the wire. Cory added Giants starter Anthony DeSclafani for a spot start Sunday and coming off two straight starts with at least 9 fantasy points, he cost Cory nearly six on the final day of the week. Between that and Andrew’s Cubs players, Javier Báez and Craig Kimbrel, Andrew held on for the win.
