Aces Only Association, Week 8 Afterword

It seems every week I’m getting this out later and later and now I’m an entire day late. Turns out wrapping up a school year, traveling, and organizing cross country workouts and practices gets in the way of fantasy sports administrative work.

Anyway, let’s briefly run through this past week in the AOA. Eric Meyer got back on top of things and claimed the Rickey Henderson Award for the week as our high scorer. It’s now his third time this season with a 7-0 breakdown. It’s also the third time this season he has won a game. So now he knows he just needs to outscore everybody else and he’ll win. It’s a strategy that works for anybody but apparently everybody but him has found at least one other strategy that results in a win.

Speaking of everybody else, Sean Kennedy finally won a game! Turned out getting married was all it took, so please join him every Sunday as he and Julia renew their vows in an attempt to get a winning streak going. He also followed Andrew’s winning strategy from last week of being the manager with the second-fewest points. It works 100% of the time when your opponent is the week’s lowest scorer!

Congratulations to Sam Martin, who took home the Manny Ramirez Award for a second consecutive week, this time taking down the AOA West leader, Evan Ash, and recording the second highest score of the week in the process.

Our third highest scorer of the week, Andrew Perez, was facing Eric so he suffered an unlucky defeat. Their matchup set a new AOA record for the highest combined game score with 309.25 points. Eric is now part of the three highest scoring games of the season and five of the top ten.

If Andrew can take home any consolation it is that he set new AOA single-week records with 18 home runs and 48 RBI! Unfortunately, those went to waste thanks in part to Eric’s single-week record .355 batting average and .993 OPS.

Cory Puffett became the first manager of the season to reach 1,000 points and in fact eclipsed the 1,100-point threshold by week’s end. Eric and Sam both joined him in the 1,000-point club. Evan should be next up.

Check out our Week 8 recap below, followed by this week’s power rankings:

Game of the Week: Dark Avengers at Airsick Lowlanders

While this game certainly lived up to the hype early in the week, Evan’s pitching advantage was hurt greatly by a late-week flub by John Means, allowing Sam’s vast hitting advantage to make the difference.
